Rockwell Young Leaders Project offers a weekly youth club for children aged 8 – 13 supported, where possible, by older children who act as positive role models.
It also runs:-
Little Chefs is an imaginative, cookery programme at the Rockwell Centre for children to learn how to prepare healthy meals on a low budget. It uses a fun, ‘hands on’ approach to healthy eating on a six week rolling programme which culminates in the children planning and preparing a meal for their families and teachers. Every child receives a certificate, apron and lots of encouragement to develop a love of good food and cooking in their homes.
Thanks to support support from the Esmee Fairbairn Trust we have been able to set up an Eco Kids Project in the neighbourhood. We have regularly engaged children and their families in a variety of environmental and horticultural activities. These include Tree, Wild Flower, Vegetable and Fruit planting, Flora, Fauna, Insect and Tree identification, establishing a Wildlife Pond, making Bug, Bird and Small Wildlife habitats, establishing a Worm Farm, cooking on a fire, making natural crafts composting sites and the care and nurture of an allotment site and community chickens. Children have developed new skills in exploring and playing outdoor games, going on nature walks and using resources available to them on their doorsteps. All activities have been facilitated by skilled and experienced forest school and outdoor learning practitioners.
