BD10 Advice & Self-Help Centre is located in York House Shopping parade. It deals with problems that marginalised local people are experiencing due to the current economic crisis including rising prices, increased debt, unemployment, poverty and a general feeling of hopelessness.
It offers:-
A generalist advice service to support families in crisis situations e.g. facing redundancy, house repossession, loss of income/benefits.
The Self-Help Centre helps people to avoid crisis situations people to reduce their energy bills and also access charitable trusts.
It offers a comprehensive debt advice and money management support service and access to low interest loans through Bradford Credit Union.
It offers support with enterprising approaches to help people grow their own food, cooking on a budget and low-cost home improvements.
It also has a counselling service through a qulified psycotherapist.
It directly links into and promotes local Community Health and Employability initiatives tackling health and wellbeing as well as offering training, volunteering opportunities and support for job-seekers and new enterprises.
It also promotes local free or low-cost community services including counselling, transport, information technology, household furniture, gardening, childcare and food coop.
